Miami Art Museum presents a recent acquisition of 24 photographs by the only photographer granted right of entry into Ground Zero after the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. After 9/11, the Ground Zero site in New York City was classified as a crime scene and only those directly involved in the recovery efforts were allowed inside. With the help of sympathetic officials, he managed to become the only photographer granted right of entry into Ground Zero.

Joining of art and poetry, this exhibition includes 40 watercolors and 31 oil paintings by artist Arturo Rodriguez and 26 poems by Alejandro Anreus. The theme was inspired by memento mori, a Latin phrase/idea that warns humans to remember that even in the midst of life there is death. The culmination of their work is a book entitled Memento Mori, guided by the spirit of Francisco de Quevedo, a poet, satirist and writing of Spain’s 17th Century Golden Age.

Named for the Latvian goddess of light, Toronto’s Austra feature singer/keyboardist Katie Stelmanis, drummer Maya Postepski, and bassist Damian Wolf. Stelmanis is a classically trained vocalist and pianist who joined the Canadian Children’s Opera at age ten intending on pursuing a career in classical music before falling in love with punk, industrial, and electronic music.
