Magic by Dennis Watkins

Bold, visually stunning, and highly entertaining, Death and Harry Houdini delivers a roller coaster ride through the life of the great Harry Houdini, brought to the stage by the great Chicago company that presented last season’s acclaimed The Sparrow.

House Company Member and award-winning magician Dennis Watkins will perform Houdini’s most renowned and dangerous escape—the dreaded Water Torture Cell—in this dark and tumultuous story guaranteed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Roméo et Juliette

Through May 5. Show times vary.

The final production of the season will be Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, not seen at FGO since 2004. Of the many operatic treatments of Shakespeare’s play, Gounod’s has been the most enduring, with its perfect depiction of the unrestrained passion of youth, and the bitter tragedy visited on the rival Capulet and Montague families.

Using a fantastic range of voices, gestures and movements, she conjures up the cast of characters with all the apparent ease of a magician pulling a whole menagerie of animals from a single hat,” says the New York Daily News. Don’t miss this warm and uniquely affecting experience filled with comical insights and witty observations about the human condition.

Ayikodans

May 25 – 26. Show times vary.

A little over a year ago, the Adrienne Arsht Center’s President and CEO John Richard, alongside The Miami Herald’s World Editor, John Yearwood, made a trip to visit disaster-strewn Haiti. On his journey to understand how the Arsht Center could make a meaningful contribution to Haiti’s recovery, John was introduced to the country’s premier dance ensemble, AYIKODANS, a company that was then on the brink of closing their business for good. With the help of passionate Miami community leaders, the Center was able to help save AYIKODANS – and has commissioned a new piece that will see its world premiere on May 25 & 26!
