The year has zipped by, and with April 15 barreling toward us, we all want to relax and unwind. Downtown Miami offers fun nightlife, but also many opportunities to enjoy life a little slowly, be it with wine, art, or even good exercise options. Check out what your favorite neighborhood has in store for you this month!
1. History Miami’s Wine Down
Visit History Miami’s social networking scene, where young professionals can indulge in a night of conversation, great wine, and live music. Special guest Dr. Paul George will host a night of pop culture and historical trivia, with the requisite competition and prizes. Want to join? 2. Electric Lunch
Do you crave a little art break during your workday? Artist Patricia Margarita Hernandez presents a wonderful reason to play hooky through her latest project “Electric Lunch,” a series of socially-conscious works that invites any and all members of the community to join her live online radio broadcasts. Audiences can listen live at www.electric-lunch.com. This series runs through April 30, every Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building, 176 NE 1 Street.
3. MIA Encore’s “First Friday Art Walk”
Miami’s blooming art scene demands more art. MIA Encore provides relief with the inaugural Downtown Miami “First Friday Art Walk” on April 5, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Denizens and visitors alike will enjoy special exhibitions, open studios, myriad tours, artist performances and exclusive openings offered by a collage of local non-profit arts organizations, artists, and local galleries. Admission is complimentary until 10:00 pm. You’ll view offerings from Bas Fisher Invitational, Dimensions Variable, TM Sisters, Turn-Based Press, Artisan Lounge, Etra Fine Art/Wine Bar, Nina Torres Gallery, Art in Public Places, and much more. 4. Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run 5K
For those of you with a charitable and healthy bent, the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run celebrates its 28th year in Miami on April 25. This is an office tradition for many local businesses and a great way to raise funds for the United Way. The race starts at 6:45 pm at Bayfront Park. Race fee is $35.00 per person. Registration ends on March 29, so spread the word!
5. Free Yoga Classes: Tina Hills Pavilion
Breath, meditation, and exercise rolled into one in the convenience of your neighborhood. Free yoga classes are held by the bay, so count beautiful views and quality company as added benefits to this healthful physical practice. Classes are held at the Tina Hills Pavilion and taught by a certified yoga instructor three days a week. Hop over between 6:00 and 7:15 pm on Monday and Wednesdays, or get your Saturday started right with this free yoga class at 9:00 am. All participants must be at least 18 years old, sign a waiver, and bring their own yoga mat, water, and towel. This is rain or shine; classes will be held at the Bayfront Park Office whenever there is a downpour.
