In the piece, dancer/choreographer HERRERA uses dining as the context to explore isolation, age, fragility, youth and the inherent drama attached to food. Told with the same wit, humor and sincerity that has come to characterize her work, this new version of DINING ALONE: ACT 2 is ROSIE HERRERA’s invitation to a surrealistic dinner party where, as the guest of honor, you are privy to the private bittersweet moments that are amplified by the experience of dining.

Following four sold-out seasons, witnessed by more than 25,000 flamenco fans, the Arsht Center’s famed Flamenco Festival Miami returns with the biggest festival to date! Flamenco’s three greatest divas – Carmen Cortés, Rafaela Carrasco and Olga Pericet – dance a thrilling repertory of traditional and contemporary pieces with a company of 15 dancers and musicians. The program will also feature works celebrating Spain’s greatest 20th-century poet and playwright, Federico Garcia Lorca.

The Cleveland Orchestra Miami: Beethoven’s Pastoral

Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency Principal Guest Conductor Giancarlo Guerrero returns following his ecstatically received debut last season, to lead The Cleveland Orchestra in a concert of favorite masterpieces. Beethoven’s lovingly rustic Sixth Symphony, the “Pastoral,” replete with birdcalls and a thrilling thunderstorm, is followed by Venezuelan-American pianist Gabriela Montero in a performance of Grieg’s virtuosic and popular Piano Concerto. Respighi’s masterful Pines of Rome closes the concert with the brasses blazing!

EAST COAST PREMIERE. Married to career-obsessed Denver surgeon Dr. Joseph Winter (Kevin Kline), Beth (Diane Keaton) is feeling edgy with an impending empty nest situation. She discovers an abandoned and mistreated dog (played by “Casey”) by the side of the freeway. Despite Joseph’s obsessions, “Freeway” becomes a part of the family. Later, during a gathering at the Winters’ mountain-cottage retreat, Freeway chases a deer while on a walk with Joseph and becomes lost. With the support of Joseph’s sister Penny (Dianne Wiest), her suspect new beau Russell (Richard Jenkins), Joseph’s nephew Bryan (Mark Duplass) and the curmudgeonly local sheriff (Sam Shephard), the search for Freeway carries out over several days and many misadventures, both comic and serious, as Beth’s frustrations with Joseph approach their nadir. Meanwhile, Freeway’s chances of survival grow increasingly slim in the bear-populated woods.

Brain Fair 2012

The Brain Fair is a free educational event sponsored by the University of Miami at the Miami Science Museum. The Brain Fair is designed to teach children and their parents about how the brain and spinal cord functions. Children will get to participate in hands-on learning activities such as building a neuron, drawing a brain on a shower cap, and playing memory games. There are also lectures for adults given by University of Miami neuroscientists on topics such as ADHD, Sleep Disorders, Exercise and IQ, and more! Additional fun activities include face painting of brains and neurons and puppet shows about how the brain works.
