Congrats to the 2012 NBA Champions the Miami Heat! While Miami has been celebrating since they won on Thursday, the city has been hard at work planning the championship celebration parade in downtown Miami. The parade, which takes place on Monday, June 25, begins at 11:00 am at SW 8th Street and 2nd Avenue. The route will take the NBA champs through a 20-block celebration route through Brickell onto Biscayne Boulevard ending at the American Airlines Arena. Season ticket holders are in luck; they get to watch the parade from inside of the American Airlines Arena, where there will be a private party held at the end of the parade.
Thousands of Heat fans are expected from around Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Both counties are stepping up their public transportation in anticipation of the day’s festivities. For example, the Metrorail trains will be running every 15 minutes. What does this mean for downtowners? The Miami Heat parade traffic will no doubt be hectic. Residents should plan on leaving early for work on Monday due to the high-volume of expected attendees. If you take public transportation take note that due to road closures, several Metrobus routes will be detoured, including routes 3, 11, 77, C and S.
